About us
Location and profile
The FFL Fachschule für Flugzeugführer GmbH (FFL Flugschule for short) based at the Verkehrslandeplatz Flughafen Essen/Mülheim (Brunshofstraße 1, 45470 Mülheim/Ruhr) is one of the traditional training facilities for aspiring pilots in Germany.
As an independent ATO organisation (Approved Training Organisation), the FFL offers both private and professional pilot training, always in compliance with the European requirements according to EASA Part FCL.
The flight school attaches great importance to individual support for the flight students – from theory and practice to preparation for later work in the cockpit.
Philosophy of training
FFL Flugschule combines many years of experience (the predecessor company was founded in 1963) with modern training methods. In the practical trainings, modern aircraft with glass cockpit systems, twin-engine diesel engine aircraft and simulator training are used. One focus is not only on technical skills, but also on soft skills such as decision-making, teamwork and communication – important aspects of a pilot’s professional life.
Offer of training
Licensing models at a glance
The FFL Flight School offers a differentiated range of pilot training courses from private pilot licences to commercial pilots and commercial pilot licences. These include, inter alia:
Private pilot (PPL(A))
Instrument rating (IR/IFR)
Commercial pilot (CPL(A))
– Transport pilot license (ATPL(A)), both as an integrated “Ab Initio” program and modular design.
Complementary training elements such as Multi Engine Piston (MEP), Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC), Jet Orientation Course (JOC) or flight instructor training round off the offer.
Table: Training offer & Cost (approximately)
| Training | Model | Guidance price / Instructions |
|---|---|---|
| Private pilot licence PPL(A) | New entrant | Individual pricing at FFL – typical size in the market €10,000-20,000 (depending on) |
| Instrument rating IR/IFR | Construction | Price on request – as part of the overall concept |
| Commercial pilot licence CPL(A) | Modular | Several tens of thousands of euros – depends on the hourly requirement |
| Commercial pilot licence ATPL(A) | Integrated (Ab Initio) or Modular | Individual consulting at FFL; typical total expenses in the market € 80,000 to over € 100,000 |
*Note: Prices are indicative. The FFL flight school expressly points out that exact costs are determined after an individual interview.
Costs
How much does training cost?
Pilot training is a significant investment, but it may be justified by the attractive career prospects and long-term earning opportunities. In its cost area, FFL Flugschule speaks openly about the fact that despite high quality standards, the price/performance ratio is deliberately kept in line with the market. The final calculation depends on several factors: training model (integrated vs. modular), already existing licenses or hours, selected aircraft, scope of additional authorizations, own learning progress as well as financing or funding opportunities.
Financing and funding opportunities
The FFL flight school points out that financing through credit institutions is possible and is advised. In addition, there is a limited possibility of funding under the Federal Education Promotion Act (BAföG) regulation, provided that the conditions are met. Tax deductibility of an initial training is also possible under certain conditions. Interested parties should plan a consultation at an early stage in order to realistically weigh financing, payment models and repayment conditions.
Requirements
Basic requirements for entry
In order to start pilot training at the FFL flight school, certain minimum requirements must be met:
Minimum age (e.g.) B. for ATPL-Ab Initio often from 17 years of age
Issuance of a valid class 1 AME certificate
– Proof of sufficient knowledge in mathematics, physics and English (e.g. by certificate or test
– Reliability in the sense of §24 LuftVO as well as a current extract from the central transport register
Personal characteristics and resources
Successful applicants also bring certain personal requirements in addition to the formal requirements: good health, great sense of responsibility, flexibility, team and communication skills as well as endurance. In addition, the financial resources or funding should be clarified, as training is a significant financial burden.
Good time management and the willingness to receive intensive training – especially with an integrated variant – are also important success factors.
