Introduction
The Flying Club St. Johann in Tyrol operates the airfield St. Johann in Tyrol (LOIJ) in the Kitzbüheler Alpen and offers a well-founded training in gliding and alpine gliding at the Alpine airfield there. For all those who want to experience the charm of Alpine flights, LOIJ is an excellent opportunity: You learn practically how to safely start in alpine terrain, glide thermally and master mountain flights. In this article, interested parties will find all important information about the costs, requirements, process and offer of training.
Offer of training and costs
At the Fliegerclub St. Johann will be offered a compact sailplane pilot training course, which includes theory and practice and can typically be completed within 2–3 months. The training also includes an aircraft tow rating with as well as hours on a powered sailor for supplementation. Upon successful completion, you will receive the gliding pilot licence – and later there is the possibility to acquire a rating for motor gliders / touring motor gliders.
| Performance | Fee/Price |
|---|---|
| Complete course (theory + practice up to SPL incl.) Powered sailplane share | € 3,000,00 flat-rate |
Note: overtime or additional hours (e.g. more starts or special cases) may incur additional costs. Excludes costs for medical examination, statutory membership fees (equivalent to a National Aero Club fee), theory course materials, radio certificate, and later contributions for high performance aircraft.
Requirements
Interested parties should contact a so-called "Edit" before the start of training. undergo a trial flight. The test flight serves to check whether one is physically and mentally for gliding or not. Alpine gliding is suitable. Before the training, additional expenses must be taken into account, such as medical examination (aviation doctor), membership fee in the association or national aero club, training books or Documents and, where applicable, Fees for radio licence and subsequent use of machinery. The completion of the course will ideally take place within one year.
Procedure and content of the training
The course combines practical and theoretical training. In the practical part, double-seater flights in the training sailor take place in F-towing, in addition to several hours on a motor gliders. After successfully completing numerous training and practice flights, as well as after the ground-level examination and the first solo flight, the practical examination for a sailplane pilot will be completed. The theory covers all relevant subject areas: aerodynamics and aircraft science, weather science, geography, air law, behavior in special situations and first aid. In addition, there is a comprehensive thermal and hazard instruction – particularly important for flying in the Alps. With a valid gliding license, it is later possible to purchase a motor gliding license (Touring-Motorglider, TMG).
Location and location
The airfield St. Johann (LOIJ) is nestled in the Kitzbüheler Alpen and thus offers classical alpine flight frames – ideal for Alpine and mountain gliding. The altitude of the square is about 670 m. The geographical and topographic location makes the place a delightful starting point for Alpine flights with spectacular views. For pilots with experience in the mountains – or for beginners after appropriate instruction – this opens up the possibility to explore the mountain world safely from the air.
