Flugplatz Hohenems-Dornbirn

The Hohenems-Dornbirn airfield (LOIH) is the gateway to Alpine flying in the Vorarlberger Rheintal. Ideal for powered flight and gliding.

LOIH – Location & Overview

The airfield LOIH Hohenems-Dornbirn (ICAO: LOIH) is located between Hohenems and Dornbirn in Vorarlberg and serves both powered flight and gliding, power gliding and helicopter operations. The runway is asphalted, with a length of 630 meters and a width of 18 meters – sufficient for powered aircraft, power glider pilots and sailplanes.During regular operating hours there is always an operator at the place. Outside of these times, no flight movements are allowed – with few exceptions such as rescue or operational flights.

Training offers

At the LOIH airfield, there is a variety of flight operations: gliding, powered flight, powered sailplanes and – depending on the club – also scenic flights, trial flights and parachuting. Especially for those interested in Alpine gliding, LOIH can be a good point of contact due to its location and existing clubs. Several local clubs use the space for gliding and training activities.

Requirements for Alpine gliding and training

A valid pilot licence is required as a basis for training or gliding operations on the field – be it gliding or powered gliding, depending on the training path. Since the station is operated regularly, radio equipment and valid certification of aircraft are a prerequisite, provided they are permanently stationed. If you want to board new, you can often get a feel for airfield and processes via trial or introductory flights. Several clubs on the square offer such opportunities.

Overview of costs

Prices for fuel (for motor or motor glider flights) are up-to-date on a daily basis and may vary. For example, the price for AVGAS is about 2.28 €/litre, for EUROSUPER 95 about 1.60 €/litre and for JET A-1 about 1.62 €/litre.
Since the costs for gliding and training vary depending on the club, flight hours and type of flights, we recommend a direct request to the respective club at the airfield.
