What is the Leoben-Timmersdorf airfield?
The airfield Leoben-Timmersdorf (ICAO: LOGT) is located in the heart of Obersteiermark, about 10 km west of the city of Leoben, embedded in the foothills of the “Lower Tauern”.
It is operated by the Alpine Sports Flyer Club Leoben (ASFC Leoben) and offers a natural environment with a grass slope, corresponding infrastructure and direct connection to the Alpine region – ideal for alpine gliding and air holidays.
In addition to the possibility for leisure and holiday flights, there is also an official flight school, through which training and licensing opportunities in gliding are offered.
Offer of training and costs
At the Leoben-Timmersdorf airfield, the ASFC Leoben offers gliding training – in simple terms, training from beginners to licenses. According to the information on the homepage, the training can be started from the age of 14 years. :contentReference[oaicite:5]{index=5}

Conditions for training
For an apprenticeship at the Leoben-Timmersdorf airfield, you need at least the age of 14.
In addition, as with almost all gliding training, this includes medical fitness and, where applicable, a radio-telephone certificate — these general requirements are common in gliding training. Since the course is close to the Alps, beginners benefit from the geographical conditions: gentle valleys, good outdoor landing opportunities and waves that are often usable against weather conditions such as cold fronts can also be handled well with little Alpine experience.
Why Alpine gliding in Timmersdorf?
The location is particularly attractive for Alpine gliding for several reasons: the location on the foothills of the Alps offers direct access to challenging mountainous areas.
In addition, there are good opportunities for overland and route flights – the place is known for the fact that large routes have already been launched from here, even 1,000 km of destination return flights under favorable conditions.
For groups, there is the option to bring their own towing machines – this can increase flexibility and possibly save costs. :
If you want to plan a holiday in addition to flying, you will find a variety of accommodation options at the square and in the surrounding area – from pensions to inns to camping directly at the airfield – ideal for families or friends.
