Overview

The Air-Club Yverdon at the airfield Aérodrome d’Yverdon-Les-Bains (ICAO: LSGY) offers gliding, among other things. Gliding (‘Vol à voile’) training.
The site has good infrastructure with paved piste and grass piste and has been continuously expanded over decades.

Offer of training and costs

The "Vol à voile" area of the club is aimed at those interested in learning to sail.
Concrete costs are not publicly indicated on the club’s website. This often corresponds to the situation of many gliding clubs, since the final price depends on the individual number of flights, the training progress and the membership of the club.

Conditions for training

In principle, anyone with motivation, responsibility and willingness to work together can start at a gliding club – but before the first solo flight a medical flight fitness test and the approval of a flight doctor are necessary.
A typical minimum age is 14 years for the start of training.

How does the training work

The training usually starts with so-called trial flights - you fly with an experienced flight instructor in the double wheel to collect basic impressions and decide whether gliding is right for you. These flights can often be credited later on to training.

This is followed by training flights with an instructor at the double tax, in which take-off, landing and basic flight maneuvers are practiced. With sufficient experience and after passing aero-medical inspection, the first solo flight can be realized – an important milestone on the way to the license.

Finally, depending on the examination regulations of the competent association, a theoretical and practical examination is carried out with the aim of obtaining the gliding licence.
