About the flight school

Location and profile

The flight school Helicentras, based in Lithuania, presents itself as a specialist for helicopter pilot training. It is aimed at both people who want to obtain the private helicopter pilot certificate (PPL(H)) and already licensed pilots who want to expand their qualifications. The training is modular – i.e.: prelude with theoretical units, followed by flying practice, and finally the examination by the competent civil aviation authority. The location offers the advantage that the pricing structure in Lithuania is often cheaper compared to other European countries – which makes the training attractive for interested parties from Germany and other European countries.

Training concept and specificities

Helicentras provides the participants with the necessary know-how about helicopter flight: theoretical content such as aviation law, navigation, meteorology, flight performance and human performance are combined with practical flight lessons. Special emphasis is placed on individually organized flight schedules – which also allows working people or people with other obligations to complete the training in a more flexible way. In addition, it transparently informs about operating costs such as fuel consumption.

Offer of training

What types of licenses are offered?

The training portfolio primarily comprises the private helicopter pilot licence (PPL(H)). If you are interested, the school can also inform you about further extensions or qualifications – for example for already licensed pilots or special additional ratings.
Practical training takes place in flight hours with qualified instructors, supplemented by theoretical training in accordance with the specifications of the competent aviation authority.

Table: Training offer and costs

License/Performance Power levels Price* (approximately)
PPL(H) – helicopter pilot licence At least 45 flight hours (for example, with R22), including the theoretical part Approximately 46 €/flight hour (single flight hour)
Intro- or Tribute flight Introduction with instructor plus up to 3 passengers 490 €
Other operating costs (approximately) e.g. Fuel, oil costs, hangar fees Example: Fuel 135 €/h, Oil-0.3 l/h, Hangar 3000 €/year

Costs

Cost structure at a glance

The total cost of training at Helicentras depends on several factors: the type of helicopter chosen, the number of flight hours required above the minimum, the training speed and other operational fees. The figure of approximately € 46 / flight hour refers to a base hour under the minimum requirement of 45 flight hours. In addition, there are variable costs such as fuel and oil consumption, hangar fees as well as fees for inspections or licensing – here too, Helicentras works with transparent information. For interested parties from Germany, it is particularly relevant that the price levels in Lithuania are often lower than Western and Northern European prices in the European comparison. This offers potential savings – but travel costs, accommodation and possible license conversion costs should be included.

Payment and expiry

The school informs that after confirmation of the flight or training, further information on safety instructions and payment methods will be provided. Early contact is recommended to clarify current prices, possible discounts or specific conditions for international participants.

Requirements

Minimum training requirements

Those wishing to complete the PPL(H) training at Helicentras must have at least one valid medical certificate (e.g. Class 2 for private helicopter license) and sufficient language skills (usually English, since international flight instructions are relevant). The minimum age is typically 16 years for training, with licensing from around 17 years – this corresponds to current requirements in the European aviation sector. In addition, a realistic estimate of the time and cost involved makes sense: regular training units lead to more efficient completion, while longer interruptions can increase the overall costs.

Recommended requirements

A good health condition, a good knowledge of English at ICAO level, and the willingness to participate regularly are clear advantages. Even a trial flight (intro flight) is often recommended in advance to check your personal suitability and motivation. Interested parties should also clarify how the license can later be recognized or rewritten in Germany – especially if the training takes place abroad.
