Overview and location of the aerodrome

The airfield of the glider flying group Reiselfingen e.V. is embedded in the natural environment near the Wutachschlucht in the southern Black Forest. With a grass tram (Bahn 07/25) of about 629 metres in length and a winch tow distance of about 1,050 metres, the course offers ideal conditions for both classic winch-start gliding and powered sailplanes or certified ultralight aircraft. The geographical location — about 25 km east of the Feldberg and about 15 km southwest of Donaueschingen, between Löffingen and Bonndorf — makes the course particularly attractive for route and leisure flights in the region.

Training offer and process

Gliding training is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. First of all, the lesson takes place with a double-seater (e.g. ASK 21), where the flight students learn to take off, land and exercise. After about 80 training flights, typically within one to a season and a half, many students of the confidence of their flight instructor receive the first permit for a solo flight. Subsequently, a transfer to a single-seat sailor (e.g. Ka 8) and in-depth training flights. At the same time, theoretical instruction is offered to prepare for the later gliding licence (SPL) exam.

Conditions for training

In principle, the Reiselfingen gliding group can start gliding from adolescence – and also for adults without previous knowledge. Important are pleasure in club life, interest in flying and reliability. The first solo flight shall also require a valid aero-medical medical examination, which must be completed before the first solo flight.

Costs & Fees

Contrary to popular opinion, gliding is comparatively cheap at the Reiselfingen gliding group. Especially for young people without their own income, there is a favorable entry model: In the first year or until the first solo flight, a lump sum of 20 euros per month is sufficient. This covers all outbound and school flight costs. People with regular income or after the first solo flight continue to fly at manageable club conditions – the club sees gliding as a sport and a hobby with good accessibility.
