About SG Freiburg

The Freiburg gliding group (SG Freiburg) is a traditional gliding school based at the airfield Bellechasse. The Group has a modern aircraft fleet – including several double-seaters and single-seaters – as well as its own tow aircraft, which enables it to operate independently.

SG Freiburg is not a large commercial flight school with many hundreds of students, but a manageable community: only three to four new pilots are appointed each year. Pilots trained. At the same time, the group attaches importance to collaborative cooperation and the joint operation of airfields and aircraft by its members.

Offer of training

SG Freiburg offers training in classic gliding. The offer includes the entry into sail flying including practical training at the double tax and single-seater as well as theoretical training. In addition to the basic training, pilots have the opportunity to develop further: for example, through route flights, Alpine gliding, competition flying or aerobic and cloud flight.

Costs & Duration

Training at SG Freiburg usually takes about two years. During this period, around 70 flights – both double-seater and single-seater – as well as theoretical training will be completed. The exact duration depends on personal commitment and progress.

As far as costs are concerned, there is no public detailed price list on the website, but SG Freiburg itself gives a rough budget recommendation: If you want a complete gliding training, should expect about CHF 8,000. However, the specific price level depends heavily on individual participation, the number of flights and your own progress.

Requirements & Entry

Getting started at SG Freiburg is relatively uncomplicated: from the age of about 16 years, training as a sailplane is possible.

Interested parties also have the opportunity to participate in a trial flight. On this double-seater flight you get a first impression of gliding, can get to know flight school and members and gain an impression of the school operation.
