About the SGP – gliding group Pilatus

The gliding group Pilatus (SGP), based at the airfield Lucerne-Beromünster, has been active since 1967 and offers gliding enthusiasts a well-founded and at the same time personal training. The association maintains a modern aircraft park with double and single-seaters, as well as all necessary infrastructure such as piste, hangar, workshop and club rooms. The aeronautical community lives on volunteers – both in training and in the care and maintenance of aircraft and facilities.

Offer of training

Training at SGP shall include full gliding pilot training, from basic theoretical training to practical school flights to en route and performance flights. After completion of the basic training, there is the possibility to complete further modules: en route flight, Alpine airfield, wave flight, aerobatic flight and extension on motor gliding (TMG). Passenger flights with power glider pilots as well as vouchers for trial or companion flight offers are also offered.

Costs

The training costs at SGP range from approximately CHF 4,000 to CHF 6,000, depending on the size and flights required. This includes theory and examination fees. In addition, there is a mandatory annual fee for infrastructure and an aircraft fee for the use of the club aircraft. Towing and launch fees are added per flight. All flight instructors are volunteers.

Requirements & Age

Formally, there is no legal minimum age at SGP for the start of training. However, the first solo flight may not be completed until after 14. Birthday; the age of at least 16 years is required for the practical examination. Forward or upward there is no age limit – according to SGP the training is possible regardless of age. Those who are interested should be able to bring pleasure from flying, invest time in theory and practice and be willing to contribute to club life and the joint maintenance of the infrastructure.
