Aerodrome & Location

The airfield of the association LSC Schliersee e. V. is located in Geitau (Bayrischzell, district of Miesbach) on the northern edge of the Alps – about an hour’s drive from Munich. The space is used exclusively for gliding; powered flight or self-start are not possible.

Take-off is made by stationary winds with 800 m steel cable, which typically results in a release height of about 300 m above ground. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4} With a corresponding thermal or valley wind-related location, the space conditions in the course of the day usually allow good conditions for thermal and route flights – often even with slope start. Landings are possible due to the terrain form exclusively towards the south.

Due to the limited space and infrastructure, neither air warehouses nor holiday planes with their own machines are possible. The space is also not available for guest planes with private aircraft. The hangars or large halls do not exist: the club machines are housed in an old barn – which, however, has the advantage that they are accessible at any time and independently of each other.

Offer of training & Costs

The LSC Schliersee offers a classic gliding training – ideal for everyone who wants to learn Alpine gliding in the club environment. Student pilots are supervised by volunteer flight instructors. The club includes a handful of different sailplanes – from double-seaters for training to single-seater performance glider pilots.

Performance/Aircraft type Costs / Fee
Admission to the Association € 1,450.00 (adults) / € 340.00 (young people in education)
Annual amount 340.00 € (adults) / 170.00 € (youths)
Flight fees & winch start (e.g. Gliders "Bergfalke" / "Spart" Starting fee: 3.00 € + time fee: 2.00 € (max. 25.00 € incl. 1⁄2 hour flight time)
Flight fees & Winch start (performance sailor / Janus double-seater) e.g. Janus: Starting fee 6,00 €, time fee 0,20 €/min (max.) Time fee 60,00 €

Thanks to the association structure and voluntary training, the training is comparatively favorable – especially for young people. According to historical data, the annual costs for young people were around 200 € per year.

Conditions for training

Young people can – depending on their height – start with gliding training at the age of 14. As usual, a valid medical medical certificate is required for the training. (This is standard at many gliding clubs – even if not explicitly listed on the LSC page every single requirement.) Pay attention to your en route flight account for your condition and endurance.

Other offers (guest flights, companion flight)

If you simply want to get a taste of gliding air without obligation, you can book a guest flight with a double-seater at the LSC Schliersee. The club uses an experienced pilot on the front seat and a guest on the rear.

The cost of a guest flight is set as a fixed amount for the winch start plus the first 10 minutes of flight: 50 €. For each additional flight minute there is 2 €. The duration of such a flight can vary, depending on the weather and thermals, between about 5-10 minutes (with a simple unlocking altitude without thermals) and up to 15-60 minutes (with good conditions).

Interested parties can simply visit the airfield on a weekend or public holiday and contact a pilot on site. Advance booking is usually not possible because the club has no commercial structure and the weather brings with it great uncertainties.
