What is the VVC Valais?
The Vol à Voile Club Valais (VVC Valais) is a gliding club with training facilities located at the airport Sion in Valis, Switzerland. The club has a modern gliding fleet – including several single-seaters and Biplace sailplanes – as well as its own towing aircraft for winches or aircraft tow. The VVC Valais offers members and interested parties the opportunity to enter the world of gliding – be it as a trial flight, for leisure or for full licensing as a gliding pilot.
With around one hundred members and a dedicated community, the association offers a family environment where both beginners and experienced pilots are welcome. The geographical location in the Rhone Valley and near the Alps enables delightful flights with impressive panoramic views – ideal for high altitude flights, route flights and training in real mountain conditions.
Offer of training
The VVC Valais offers classic gliding training in accordance with the requirements of European aviation regulations. The programme includes both practical and theoretical training elements. Practically every training starts with numerous double-seat flights with an experienced flight instructor. Following this, the route leads on the first solo flight to several solo flights and landings until the pilot is ready for the test. Theoretically, all relevant topics are covered – from aviation law to meteorology, navigation and aeronautical science to radio and flight procedures.
Practical gliding training takes place mainly on weekends, from the beginning of March to the end of September. In addition, if you are interested, summer camps are offered in which more intensive and compact flown. The theory courses are usually R. in autumn or winter, in evening hours. This makes the VVC Valais suitable for both leisure pilots and ambitious gliding students.
Conditions for training
In principle, it is possible to start training at the VVC Valais – but the club sets certain minimum requirements: for solo flights, the applicant must be at least 14 years old. As a rule, the practical training sessions take place on weekends, so that a certain time flexibility is required. Since gliding is associated with mountain flights and changing weather conditions, especially in the Alpine region, motivation, a sense of responsibility and interest in weather science and navigation are important. A special minimum medical classification may be required depending on national regulations, the exact requirements should be requested from the association.
Costs
The publicly available website of the VVC Valais does not specify any specific prices or fees for gliding training. Also in the sections “Training” and “Flying” there is no information on course or material costs. Interested parties should therefore contact the association directly in order to receive a daily offer for basic training, practice flights, grants or material rentals.
Note: The symbol “–” means that the VVC Valais has not published any price information on its website. Interested parties should speak directly by e-mail or telephone according to current course and fees.
