ASW 17 – The elegant all-rounder of the 15-meter class
The ASW 17 is a single-seat sailplane of the 15-meter class and was designed as a versatile performance sailor for club and competition operations. It was developed by the manufacturer Alexander Schleicher and builds on the successful line of the ASW series, which is known for balanced flight characteristics and high performance.
In terms of design, the ASW 17 is made entirely of glass-fiber-reinforced plastic (GRP). The slender wings and the aerodynamically cleanly designed hull ensure good sliding performance and efficient climbing in the thermals. Depending on the design, the ASW 17 can be flown with water ballast, which allows it to be flexibly adapted to different weather conditions.
Flying, the ASW 17 impresses with a harmonious and precise control feeling. It is less demanding than pure competitive glider pilots, but still offers enough performance for ambitious route flights and competitions. This makes it suitable for experienced club pilots as well as for entry into performance-oriented gliding.
To this day, the ASW 17 is appreciated for its reliability, solid construction and balanced overall concept. It stands for classic performance gliding, which combines both sporting ambitions and relaxed route flying.
