Overview of the flight school

The gliding organization Club svoul a vela Muottas (CSVM) offers gliding in the high alpine area of Engadin – more precisely around the Engadin Airport Samedan airfield. The Engadin is known for its exceptional gliding conditions: high valleys, steep mountain flanks, stable upwinds, slopes and wave winds make the area a paradise for thermal and mountain glider pilots.

The club has existed for many decades and specializes in mountain and winch launch. The gliding operations are organized over the winds – as is typical for the Engadin.

Offer of training

CSVM primarily offers gliding opportunities within the framework of an association – this includes guest and passenger flights as well as flights after briefing. For officially structured full training, the course cooperates with an external flight school (e.g. According to the information at Engadin Airport) – so interested parties can start and complete classic gliding training there.

In addition, the association offers simple passenger flights for guests and interested parties – ideal for trying out a mountain gliding without starting an apprenticeship.

Requirements & Conditions of participation

If you want to sail independently in the Engadin, you have to comply with some regulations: A mandatory online briefing is required before you can start.

No special license requirements are required for guest or passenger flights – but a winch start is associated with the respective regulations. If you want to fly permanently and independently, you should have a valid gliding license and sufficient flight or Have take-off experience; often the place also requires that winch launches or control flights have already been completed in recent months.

Furthermore, it should be noted that all arrivals and departures must be visual (VFR) – there is no instrument approach system. This involves certain rules, especially for Alpine and mountain flights in the Engadin.

Costs & Passenger flights

CSVM provides both passenger flights and guest flights – the prices are transparently indicated and make it easy to start gliding without long training.

Offer Price (CHF)
Start of the winch (approximately 5–10 minutes) 80.–
Gliding ~ 30 minutes 160.–
Gliding ~ 1 hour 250.–
Glide 2 hours (or extension) 350.–
Motor-powered sailplane (with powered sailplane, e.g. Stemme S6) 1 hour 330.–

For ambitious pilots who want to fly in the longer term, additional costs can arise – for example, starting tickets for winch starts, required briefing flights or club fees (depending on membership and use). These vary and are to be individually coordinated with the club or the airfield.
