The ASK 13 is a two-seater glider that was developed specifically for training and is still considered to be a true classic in gliding. It was designed in the 1960s by Alexander Schleicher in cooperation with the designer Rudolf Kaiser and has been used at many airfields worldwide since then.

Characteristic of the ASK 13 is its robust design. The hull is made of steel tube with fabric coverings, the wings are made of wood. This design makes the aircraft extremely durable and also forgives harder landings, which is particularly important in training operations. The tandem seat arrangement enables flight instructors and flight students to work closely together, with both occupants having full control capabilities.

Flying, the ASK 13 is characterized by good-natured and stable properties. It responds calmly to control inputs and gives a very direct sense of aerodynamics and flight condition. With its comparatively low glide performance compared to modern plastic glider pilots, it forces pilots to center thermals cleanly and fly predictively – an ideal basis for later flying more powerful patterns.

Even today, the ASK 13 is often used in gliding clubs, especially for basic training, for training flights and for instruction in winch or glide. Aeroplane towing launches. It is symbolic of solid craftsmanship, flying honesty and the traditional values of gliding.
