Requirements for trike training

Minimum age, medical fitness and the right flight school: This is how you prepare your training start.

Does the education suit you?

You don’t need any professional pilot plans to learn trike. Crucial are interest, regular exercise and the willingness to take weather decisions seriously. A taster flight will show you how sitting position, wind and control bars feel.

Age

For motor-driven aerial sports equipment, § 17 LuftPersV basically mentions 16 years as the minimum age for the start of training. In the case of minors, clarify the consent of the guardians with the school.

Medical fitness

A valid medical certificate of at least LAPL is required in the standard route for trikes above 120 kg. Schedule the examination date early.

Appropriate school

For a DULV license, check the current Trike training offer and the recognition of the school with the association. A sightseeing provider is not automatically a suitable training facility.

This belongs in the first conversation

Training objective: Weight-controlled trike, category and later use.
Ergonomics: Seat rehearsal, range on the temple, helmet and communication with the teacher.
Time: How often can you come, what dates does the school offer and how are weather-related outages treated?
Documentation: Passport, medical and, where applicable, existing pilot licence or radio-telephone certificate.
Contract: Hourly rates, incidental costs, insurance and possible excesses in writing.

Do you already have a pilot license?

An existing authorization can affect parts of the training. Which crediting is possible depends on the license, category and evidence. Have an individual training plan created before concluding your contract; experiences in the three-axle vehicle do not replace learning weight control.

The information on this page describes the German standard route for trike over 120 kg unladen mass. For light trikes and motor parasol trikes, separate rules apply.
