Overview of the aerodrome
Location & Space information
The airfield of LSV‐Hayingen e.V. is located on the northwestern edge of the city of Hayingen (Baden-Württemberg). The coordinates are about 48°17.08′ N / 9°27.96′ E, and the square height is about 708 m (2323 ft). Railway 13/31 is a grass railway with a length of approximately 830-850 m — ideal for training flights and gliding operations.
Flight conditions & Environment
The airfield is located in the middle of the Schwäbische Alb, a thermally very strong gliding area – which makes the place particularly attractive for en route flights. Several long overland flights with over 600 km have already been launched by Hayingen. In addition, airspace in the immediate vicinity is largely free — airspace restrictions only begin at a greater distance. This facilitates in particular ambitious route and thermal flights.
Offer of training
Gliding & Motor glider
At the airfield of LSV-Hayingen, sailplanes and powered sailplanes can take off and land in a licensed manner; the place allows take-offs by winch launch or aircraft towing. This makes Hayingen well suited for glider training and power gliding – both for beginners and experienced pilots who want to extend or refresh their licence.
Ultralight Flight (UL)
In addition, the association also offers ultralight flight training. The entry is theoretically possible from about 16 years – especially if another aviation license already exists. In exceptional cases (depending on previous knowledge) a direct route from the pedestrian to the UL pilot may also be possible.
Requirements
For ultralight flights
Theoretical training comprises, as standard, approximately 60 theoretical hours with topics such as air law, air traffic control, communication in airborne radio, aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation, technology, behavior in special situations and human performance.
Practically, 30 hours of flight time are generally required, with the possibility of crediting up to a certain amount of existing gliding or helicopter experience. This must include at least one solo flight. Also cross-country flights with certain requirements (e.g. 200 km with stopover) are planned.
For gliding / powered gliding
Specific minimum requirements for gliding or powered gliding training are not publicly standardised, but general aeronautical fitness, interest in thermal and route-oriented flying and readiness to participate in theory and practical flights are usually necessary. The space with its railway length and surroundings offers excellent conditions for this.
Costs
Charges at the aerodrome
A landing fee is charged at Hayingen airfield – it is currently 4,00 € per landing.
Conditions for training & Utilisation
For specific costs of training at LSV-Hayingen there are public price sheets – for example for air warehouses or guest operations with winch starts: A winch start with the association’s own winch costs about 6,50 € according to the current price list. Note: The total cost of a full training (especially UL) depends heavily on how many flight and theory hours are actually completed and how many hours are counted from previous gliding.
Selection of typical costs for similar training (as a reference)
As a rough comparison, the typical pricing structure of an ultralight flight school is mentioned: there, theoretical course, flight hours, examination and administration fees are often in the mid-four to five-digit range, depending on scope and individual use.
