Dragon flying: training

From the first contact with the device to your own license: This is how the German training path can be classified.

The apprenticeship in Germany

  1. Getting to know and choosing schools

Discuss training objective, starting type, school equipment, language of instruction and weather control. A trial course facilitates the decision.

  2. Basic training

On the slope, construction, start, control and landing are learned in small steps. The DHV calls for dragons at least 20 basic training flights with 20-100 meters difference in altitude; in the tow training path at least 10 double-seater exercises.

  3. High altitude flight training

After confirmed high altitude readiness, supervised training at higher altitude follows. For dragons, the DHV calls at least 30 high-altitude take-offs with complete landings in at least two terrains.

  4. Theory and testing

The A-training includes 20 lessons of 45 minutes in aviation law, weather, engineering and flight engineering and special cases. Theory and practice are tested.

  5. Building experience

The A-licence is valid for the registered start type and the corresponding scope of authorization. Further education and other starting types you plan with your flight school.

What kind of start fits your place of residence?

Hang start

A training slope is at the beginning; later suitable high-altitude airfields are added.

Winch towing

A winch allows for starts in flatter terrain. Availability and education depend on the school.

UL tow

A suitable tow aircraft will take the kite up. Ask specifically about this training path.
