CASE SPRING / KNOWLEDGE FOR YOUR ENTRY

AFF: accompanies in freefall.

The AFF Method, Performance Levels and the Difference Between AFF Degree and Springer Licence.

What does AFF mean?

AFF stands for Accelerated Freefall. You jump with your own parachute system, while specially qualified teachers accompany you in freefall. This distinguishes this path from the tandem jump, in which you are connected to the tandem pilot.

Power levels instead of jump guarantee

The German AFF model described by the DFV comprises seven successive levels. Initially, two teachers accompany the student; later the supervision can be done with a teacher. A stage is completed only after the learning goal has been achieved. Repetitions may be necessary.

The exact implementation, releases and tasks are taught by the school. Other countries may structure the programme differently. Therefore, compare content and conclusion if you see offers with seven, eight or nine levels.

What skills are being built?

  • Orientation and controlled movement in freefall.
  • Conscious awareness of the height and the tasks agreed with the teachers.
  • Dealing with your own system under personal guidance.
  • Umbrella flight, landing planning and safe processes at the jumping site.
  • Evaluation of the jump and preparation of the next learning step.

What happens next?

After the AFF part, the training continues. Additional student jumps, theory, equipment knowledge and exams lead to the license. A course offer “AFF Level 1–7” should therefore be compared with its actual scope.
