Building a weather picture

Before a trike flight, you need an up-to-date weather picture for the airfield, route and return. Wind, gusts, visibility and cloudiness are assessed together. Looking at the sun is not enough. Discuss with the instructor what weather information you actually need for your planned flight.

Wind and land

Terrain and obstacles change the airflow. Behind rows of trees or buildings, swirls can occur. The airlines shown here are a schematic explanation and not a weather forecast. Stick to the operational limits of the pattern and the limits your flight school sets with you.

Pre-flight inspection

Before boarding, the trike is checked according to the associated checklist. This includes wing, suspension, control and chassis. In the open cockpit loose objects must be secured. The area of the propeller remains free. The specific order is given in the AFM of the training device.

A good decision

A reasonable flight decision also takes into account experience, daily form, fuel and alternative options. Even after the start, the situation will be re-evaluated.
